zum Forschungsseminar Computergrafik, Bildverarbeitung und
Visualisierung am Mittwoch den 2009-02-11, 14:00 Uhr, Raum 1-43 in
der Johannisgasse 26.

Wir hören einen Vortrag von

    Patrick Oesterling
    Universität Leipzig

mit dem Titel

    "Visual Analysis Of Information Spaces
    Using Topological Landscapes"

Zum Inhalt:

Document collections are constantly increasing in size and
complexity, thus asserting themselves as the main information
source. While one can achieve insight to the data by applying well
known techniques like clustering, wavelet analysis or projection to
reduced dimensions (PCA, MDS etc), we tackle this problem from the
topological point of view by defining an information space as a set
of documents and a topology on this set. Using the fact, that
humans are naturally trained in understanding the structure of a
terrain, we visualize the topology of this high dimensional space
by means of "Topological Landscapes", a new metaphor that was
recently introduced to the community by Gunter Weber et al. We
therefore present a multiple-stage process to obtain a decomposed
contour tree which can directly be mapped to a 3D terrain with the
same topology as the given dataset.

Der Vortrag wird in Deutsch gehalten.
