to the Research Seminar 'Computer Graphics, Image Processing, and
Visualization'

on Wednesday, December the 14th, 2022, at 01:15 PM,
in the room SG 3-10, Seminargebäude, Universitätsstraße 1, 04109
Leipzig, also online.

A talk will be given by

     Yves Annanias

and is entitled:

'SARDINE - Smart Regional Development Infrastructure'

Abstract:

Developing utilization concepts for active or already abandoned coal
mining areas is an ongoing and long-lasting process. Expert reports on
soil conditions, hazardous areas and environmental concerns have to be
prepared to enable the planning of infrastructure in former mining
areas.
This means that a large amount of heterogeneous data have to be
compiled,
digitized and linked, whereby important information is lost or
difficult
to discover due to the large number. Until now, all relevant data has
to be gathered from files and documentation of municipalities or mining
companies in a time-consuming process. The SARDINE research project -
Smart Regional Development Infrastructure - focuses on this issue.
Within
the research project, a data platform is currently being created in
which
the data will be digitized, linked and made more easily accessible.
With
the help of the platform, important information will be marked and
immediately recognizable for the user. In the future, experts will have
much faster access to all necessary and relevant data that must be
taken
into account, for example, for the construction of a new bike path or
the renaturation of a former mining areas.

Another talk will be given by

     Jeremias Schebera

and is entitled:

     'Genome Browser Project'

Abstract:

In (computational) biology, the comparison of genomes is of great
interest.
A common technique for comparing several genomes is called genome-wide
multiple sequence alignment (gMSA) by grouping similar parts of the
genomes into blocks. We developed a graph layout for gMSA graphs with
the goal to support the analysis of gMSAs from a semi-global
perspective.
Our goal is to develop a web application for biologists and
bioinformaticians,
which supports an exploratory comparative analysis of genomic data.
Thereby, our gMSA graph visualization serves as a starting point and
further details can be analyzed with additional views, like: a
Local MSA
View and a Genome Browser view.

On behalf of Professor Scheuermann all those interested are cordially
invited to attend.
