A talk will be given by

     Maximilian Söchting

and is entitled:

     'Advancing Interactive Visualizations of Large-Scale,
Multi-Dimensional Earth Observation Data'

Abstract:

Climate change, resource scarcity, and resulting conflicts pose a
significant threat to the global political and economic system. To
better
comprehend and address these challenges, it is crucial to gather and
analyze climate-related data using satellites. As remote sensing,
climate
modeling, and climate impact modeling evolve, there is a growing
emphasis
on high-resolution data sets in terms of time and space. However,
larger
data sets present challenges in terms of quick and intuitive data
comprehension. Query execution can take hours or even days, and
conventional
visualization software struggles with processing such vast amounts of
data. As part of this project, the client-server software architecture
"Lexcube" for interactive exploration and visualization of multivariate
remote sensing data sets was developed. It allows to explore large data
in any modern web browser, including mobile devices. The data is
visualized
as a 3D “earth cube” with a temporal dimension in addition to the two
spatial dimensions. This talk will focus on recent developments
surrounding
Lexcube, i.e., physicalization efforts (interactive and
non-interactive)
and virtual/augmented reality. Additionally, future developments such
as integration into data science workflows and multi-cube
visualizations
     are discussed.

On behalf of Professor Scheuermann all those interested are cordially
invited to attend.

Yours sincerely
