     'Detection of Sweeps in Turbulent Flows'

Abstract:

     The analysis of turbulent boundary layer is a difficult task and 
methods
     of the flow visualization area are therefore a valuable tool. There are
     different events and conceptual models describing how the coherent
     structures and other turbulent structures work, one of them being the
     sweeps and ejections. As these events can only be detected with the 
usage
     of the quadrant analysis, other methods for a possibly more exact 
detection
     or characterization seemed appropriate. Thus, in this work an approach
     for detection of sweeps using the eigenvalues of the right Cauchy-Green
     tensor is presented and subsequently tested with an aquatic canopy
     dataset.
