to the Research Seminar 'Computer Graphics, Image Processing, and
Visualization'

on Wednesday, October the 25th, 2023, at 01:15 PM,
in the room P-801, Paulinum, Augustusplatz 10, 04109 Leipzig.

======================================================================

A talk will be given by

     Jonas Rebmann

and is entitled:

'tectogen - A new Framework for artistic real-time Music Visualization'

Abstract:

The artistic fields of real-time music processing and procedural image
generation are well-established domains in the realm of audiovisual
performance supported by a substantial body of academic research.
However,
real-time music information retrieval techniques have only played a
peripheral role in these domains and scholarly works are predominantly
focused on offline music analysis. This presentation attempts an
overview
of the various practices of live artistic music visualization as well
as of established software, such as dataflow languages like Pure Data
and VJing software like Resolume, contrasting them to the proposed
"tectogen" software project. tectogen is a prototype of real-time
artistic
music visualization software that integrates music information
retrieval
techniques into the workflow of visual performers, particularly in
VJing,
where synchronization of the viual performance with live music is
essential. Utilizing a code-generation approach to visualization and a
user-friendly open source interface, tectogen takes a hybrid approach
between dataflow languages and VJing software that enables new forms of
artistic expression. A prospective second presentation will explore the
theoretical aspects of real-time music information retrieval in the
     context of the tectogen project.

Another talk will be given by

     Tomas Daetz

and is entitled:

'Isocontours in Uncertain Scalar Fields '

Abstract:

Uncertainty in data has been one of the main research topics in the
last
two decades for the visualization community, as it is a difficult task
to visualize uncertain data in a meaningful and intuitive way with a
sound mathematical foundation. Among the data with uncertainty, the
visualization of uncertain scalar fields has had many advancements,
especially the analysis of uncertain critical points. Another important
task for a better understanding of the underlying topology of the
scalar
field is the computation of isocontours. Many methods have been
presented
to compute and visualize them in the uncertain setting, although most
methods make some assumptions about the data, e.g., the type of
underlying
distribution, and thus limit the correctness of their results, or
do not
have a straight-forward extension for showing many isocontours with
different isovalues. Hence, there is at the moment no general approach
(i.e., as few assumptions as possible) to compute and visualize
uncertain
isocontours. In this talk, previous methods for computing and
visualizing
uncertain isocontours will be presented, as well as some ideas on how
to approach this problem using directly the cumulative distribution
     function.
