Since 1991 he has been<br>playing a leading role in the ontology field, developing a strongly<br>interdisciplinary approach that combines together Computer Science,<br>Philosophy, and Linguistics, and relies on logic as a unifying paradigm.<br>Results of his lab include the OntoClean methodology and the DOLCE<br>foundational ontology. Current research interests include ontology-driven<br>conceptual modelling, socio-technical systems, and service science. He is<br>founder and editor-in-chief (with Mark Musen from Stanford University) of<br>the international journal Applied Ontology, and is the founder and was<br>first president of the International Association for Ontology and its<br>Applications, IAOA. He is editorial board member of the International<br>Journal of Semantic Web and Information Systems, the Journal of Data<br>Semantics, and editor of the IOS Press book series Frontiers in AI and<br>Applications. He has been recently nominated ECCAI fellow.<br><br>MICHAEL USCHOLD, is an internationally-recognized expert with 25 years<br>experience in developing and transitioning semantic technology from<br>academia to industry. Michael pioneered the field of ontology engineering,<br>co-authoring the first paper and giving the first tutorial on the topic in<br>1995. This leveraged the work he did in creating the influential<br>³Enterprise Ontology.² He spent 11 years at Boeing defining, leading and<br>participating in numerous projects applying semantic technology to<br>enterprise challenges. Michael is a regular invited speaker and panelist<br>at national and international events, and has given numerous tutorials and<br>training classes. He received his PhD in Artificial Intelligence from The<br>University of Edinburgh in 1991.<br><br>KIT FINE is University Professor and Silver Professor of Philosophy and<br>Mathematics at New York University and Distinguished Research Professor at<br>University of Birmingham. He specialises in metaphysics, logic, and<br>philosophy of language. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and<br>Sciences and a corresponding fellow of the British Academy. Professor Fine<br>has served as an editor or as a member of the editorial board for Journal<br>of Symbolic Logic, Synthese, Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic, Journal<br>of Applied Non-Classical Logics, Reports on Logic, and Philosophers'<br>Imprint.<br><br>RENATA WASSERMAN is Associate Professor at the Computer Science Department<br>of the University of São Paulo, (PhD, Institute of Logic, Language and<br>Computation of the University of Amsterdam, 2000). Working on Knowledge<br>Representation and Belief Revision, specially on non-classical logics, got<br>involved with ontologies from the description logics side. Current<br>interests include merging of ontologies and ontology evolution.<br><br>GIANCARLO GUIZZARDI is Associate Professor and research lead in the<br>Ontology and Conceptual Modeling Research Group (NEMO), Federal University<br>of Espirito Santo, in Brazil, a visiting professor at the University of<br>Trento, Italy, and and associate researcher at the Laboratory for Applied<br>Ontology (LOA), at the ISTC-CNR, Italy. He has been working since 1997 in<br>the development of Domain and Foundational Ontologies and their<br>application in computer science and, primarily, in the area of Conceptual<br>Modeling. He is a former member of the Executive Council and currently a<br>member of the Advisory Board of the International Association for<br>Ontologies and its Applications (IAOA). He is also an editorial board<br>member of the following journals: Applied Ontology, Semantic Web,<br>Requirements Engineering and International Journal of Information Systems<br>Modeling and Design.
