[OpenWalnut-Dev] Server failures

Hi,

as some of you might have noticed, that our website was down last day, I want
to apologize for any inconveniences. The reasons for this was mainly to update
our server. Although I made a small mistake with some upgrading of (in fact)
locked packages, the new Redmine version migrated its database into Nirvana,
left us with incompatible plugins and tons of server errors, although the
upgrade was between minor releases (1.3.1 to 1.4.4). So far the basic website
functionality is back online, HTH.

For the "long" run, I kindly ask for support to: SWITCH BACK TO TRAC!

###################################################################

Explanation:
As I were the driving force behind migration from Trac to Redmine it may sound
strange to switch back as there were reasons which let us switch to Redmine.
Those were:
  * Trac development (framework + plugins) didn't released new versions for
some years, so it was not clear if project has been died or not.
  * Redmine promised newer plugins better work-flow and more features and a
much more active community.

What I didn't knew at this time, was, that the Redmine package for Debian
based systems is broken together with Redmine's update policies, as some of
the features which Trac had must be solved inside of the applications source
code. And, which struggles me most, Backup of the whole application. In Trac
this was a one-liner, so if same happened yesterday to our Trac instance, I
would have been able to play back backups much easier and faster.
Another problem, which is very serious, is, that plugins became orphan and
even the old repositories have disappeared. This is why we won't get back our
old behaviour, e.g. Youtube plugin, and many other plugins (in summary at
least 5) are not working and their source code is lost (dead links).
Last but not least, Trac is not dead, they released 1.0 some months ago.

So this is not the first time I most definitely regret the decision to switch
to Redmine. As we should be visible at VisWeek with an intact website, I
kindly demand a fast decision.

Mathias
