Beware that Raspberry Pi is based on ARMv6.

Debian "armel" is optimized for ARMv5, and "armhf" optimized for ARMv7.

That means Raspberry Pi runs slower than promoted with Debian. About
30% according to some sources (but don't take my word for it!).

The Debian-based but independent "Raspbian" distro is optimized for
ARMv6.

Freedombox reference hardware - the "DreamPlug" - runs ARMv5, so might
be ok to run official Debian on Raspberry Pi as well. But I suspect it
to be more limited in other ways, making it less optimal for the
purpose. Would be nice to have it compared to other devices like this:

...and especially to include in such test how much of the software stack
is official Debian (for recent devices kernel cannot be, for obvious
reasons).

P.S.

One of my ARM devices is an OLinuXino. I just haven't taken time yet to
play with it - it is lying on a shelf laughing at me... :-)
