A talk is given by

     Professor Min Chen
     University of Oxford

and is entitled

     "Information Theory in Visualization: An Excursion or a Voyage?".

Abstract:

     Information theory wandered into the field of visualization more than a
     decade ago. It has been used to measure information content in data and
     visualization, and to explain phenomena in visualization processes. 
In this
     talk, the speaker will trace the journey of major applications of
     information theory in visualization, including the latest work on 
measuring
     the benefit of visualization. The speaker will make an argument 
that the
     field of visualization can provide information theory with lines of 
passage
     to cognitive sciences. At the same time, information theory may bring
     statistics, algorithms, visualization, and interaction together under a
     common theoretic framework.
